This is the first week in our series on the Beatitudes. Our focus verse is: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their is the kingdom of heaven.” Jesus begins with a call to humility – a sense of how we’re called to understand ourselves and others in light of God’s grace. “Poor is spirit” is a challenge to all of us as we fight the power of our ego and recognize our need for God. Pastor Mary’s message is also based on II Corinthians 6: 1-10.
