Welcoming All, Empowered by Christ, Sent Forth to Serve

July 3, 2022 message: “God’s Holy Name”

This is the first week in the series, “The Prayer Jesus Teaches.”  The Lord’s Prayer is probably the most well-known prayer in Christian tradition. We memorize it, and we share when we worship together. Even more, this prayer shows up in films, TV, shows, books, and song. The fact is that the Lord’s Prayer is so well-known and widely quoted that it can become rote rather than real for us. However, it’s the prayer that Jesus offers when his disciples ask him to teach them how to pray, so it’s important that we not only pray it authentically, but understand what we’re praying and why.

Hallowed means holy, which mean “set apart” or “sacred.” Jesus teaches us to pray to God who is both close like a loving parent and holy and deserving of our reverence both personally and communally.

Worship opened with “Our Prayer,” a contemporary version of the Lord’s Prayer. Pastor Mary’s message is based on Matthew 6: 5-15 and Psalm 103. To read it, click here.

The 10 am worship service is available in its entirety on YouTube.
