The people talking to Jesus had witnessed tragedy. People had died suddenly and unexpectedly. They had questions, but Jesus speaks of repentance. Repentance literally means “to turn around,” as in a 180-degree turn! Every day is an opportunity to turn from sin and walk with God, but we struggle to claim our sin and believe that God’s grace is sufficient to forgive us and make us new. Jesus’ story is a call to all to repent and receive assurance of God’s grace that we might live in faith not fear.
